Top Fives: For Decorating Over Your Bed

Top Fives Add comments

The space over my bed is literally empty. I don't even have a headboard right now. That's why my interest was piqued when I glanced upon a post on CasaSugar entitled "10 Ideas for Decorating Over the Bed". Their ideas are quite unique-- I love the idea of putting a large swatch of fabric above the bed-- I am loving the ones that Pierre Deux added recently. I also enjoy vintage advertisements--I'd love to find one for something feminine, like perfume or lingerie, to blow up and place above my bed.

I'm using their post as a jump-off point for a Top Five post, a category for which I haven't written in awhile. I'm going to throw in some of my own, non-FCL suggestions as well.

Zero In Mirror

1. I like the idea of placing a smattering of small mirrors above the bed. It's more fun than choosing just one regal mirror. The It's Hip to be Rectangle Mirror or Zero In Mirror are options.

2. How about installing a wall shelf and placing sundry items on it? It lends your room an eclectic feel. I'm imagining old-fashioned perfume bottles, cute figurines, a picture frame, a bell jar or a dependable candle.

3. I just had an ambitious vision-- how about hanging a mobile to hang down the wall? To keep it from drifting above, attach small weights to the ends so they remain in place. The Arabesque Mobileo is a glammy, shiny option.

4. The easiest option is to select a painting or print that calls to you. Here's our wall art. Or, you can head to Etsy--they have wonderful vintage photographs, advertisements, one-of-a-kind paintings and much more. For the fashionista, these vintage style cards are pefect.

5. I love the look of contrasting paint color. Another idea is to paint a square above your bed. Then, frame it. You can then hang a small painting in the center, leave it empty, or do something totally different. It's a blank canvas.
